When Manis returned to his home community he saw that most
of the trees had been cut down for charcoal. Years of drought had forced the
people to make a living off something other than their failing gardens. Manis
found his family discouraged and giving up hope.
Planting trees was one of the first things that Manis
started to do when he returned.
